A FORMER Fiji resident was briefly detained by police yesterday afternoon for writing a story about the 2000 coup.

Patrick Lang, a biochemistry PhD student who resides in Cyprus was taken in by police at 3pm yesterday. He was released after an hour of questioning.

Sources have told Fiji Uncensored that Lang was about to distribute the story which details the views and experiences of three indegenious youths during the 2000 coup.

Lang made an undertaking not to release the story and has reportedly warned the three subjects of his piece to take extra care.

The story had information detailing the riots of 2000 and the spread of propaganda against former President Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara.

The piece also had excerpts that police say carried deep Taukei sentiments and information on how elite Counter Revolutionary Warfare soldiers carried out the seizure of the Parliamentary complex in May 2000.

Police told Lang that public safety rested in his hands and such a report would create disorder.

Sources said Lang withdrew the story and would distribute it after the Public Emergency Regulations were lifted. – fiji uncensored
