NATIONALIST politician Iliesa Duvuloco was stopped when he tried to leave the country on Monday this week.

Fiji Uncensored has confirmed that Duvuloco was booked to travel on an Air Niugini flight bound for Papua New Guinea and had already checked in at Nadi International Airport for the 7am flight.

However, he was turned away by border officials when he sought Immigration clearance minutes later.

Duvuloco had just been released by Fiji police after almost a week in detention. He and four others were accused of distributing pamphlets authorities say were in breach of public emergency laws.

The pamphlets allegedly urged indigenous Fijians to rise up against the military  regime.

Because he had already checked in, the PX flight bound for Port Moresby via Honiara was delayed as Duvuloco’s luggage was offloaded from the aircraft.

This is not the first time the nationalist had tried to seek shelter in Melanesia. Soon after Voreqe Bainimarama staged his coup on December 2006, Duvuloco fled to Vanuatu. He also spent time in Solomon Islands and PNG.

He only returned about 12 months ago when Solomon Islands declared him a persona non grata. – fiji uncensored
